The Alumni & Friends of Yorktown High School, Inc. is
an all-volunteer charitable organization whose purpose is
to develop alumni support for Yorktown High School, with fellow alumni, faculty and
current students through reunions, scholarships, career development, and other special
activities. All such purposes shall at all
times be exclusively for charitable, educational, and
scientific purposes, including, for such purposes,
the making of distributions to organizations that
qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax
code.
Although we work closely with Yorktown and it's staff, and
the Yorktown High School PTA - and make every effort to coordinate our activities - all
three organizations are independent of the other. Accordingly, none are responsible
for the acts or omissions of another.
We are a 100% volunteer organization of YHS alumni, parents
of current and/or former students, and other friends of the school.
Unlike the Alumni Association of most colleges and
universities, we are currently 100% dependent on our modest dues to fund the regulatory
compliance costs, postage, web-site expenses etc.
One of our corporate policies is that no one associated
with the management of our organization receives any salary, commissions, remuneration of
any kind (other than reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses expended on behalf of the
corporation) or special consideration of any kind by virtue of their involvement with the
corporation.
We are planning a number of school-related activities,
including the following the current status of which is indicated in (brackets):
- a web site - (Started I/01)
- quarterly newsletter - (Since I/01)
- a manual of "lessons learned"
for local reunions - (on going)
- organizing and posting of scholarship opportunities -
(Accepted by the School Board in October 2001)
- preservation of Yorktown High School's history - (Started, but Volunteers needed)
- maintenance of academic, athletic, and community recognition and awards earned by alumni, current
students, and faculty - (started)
- private,
non-commercial, free electronic mailing lists, organized by class (all created; about 75%
operational)
