Colorectal Memorial Health Fund

Katie Couric YHS 75, helped launch the Colorectal Memorial Health Fund at ceremonies on Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at the John T. Hazel, M.D., Conference Center in Arlington Hospital, Arlington, Virginia. 

This new health fund is a joint community project of the Arlington County Medical Society Foundation (ACMSF) and Arlington Hospital. Dr. Edward Koch, president of ACMSF, has worked closely with James Cole, CEO of Arlington Hospital to provide discounted hospital services to the Foundation. Two families of Northern Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. William Soza and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hitt , whose families have experienced loss due to colorectal disease, provided the initial funding.

Arlington County Medical Society physicians committed to this collaborative venture are Edward Koch, M.D., founder of the fund, Pradeep Gupta of Gastroenterology Center of Northern Virginia
(colonoscopies) and Joseph J. Buchino, M.D., and Associates (pathology) have very generously provided their specialized services.

The purpose of this fund is to enable the underserved population of Arlington and Falls Church with a family history or clinical findings indicative of colorectal disease to obtain colonoscopies.
